But in checking the entire system out for other possible issues, I noticed that the Clock and Weather gadgets on the Sidebar were "corrupt". For example, the default analog clock was nothing more than a black distorted circle and the Weather gadget was displayed as a simple white rectangle.

Go to: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Sidebar You should find a file named Settings.ini The file contains the details of all the loaded gadgets. You can either go through the file and delete the duplicate entries or just delete the file completely and replace the gadgets.

If this is the case, just hover your mouse over the title bar of the gadget and click the dropdown arrow that appears. Next, click "Expand" and your News gadget should return to the size it was previously (you can also expand and collapse your gadgets by double-clicking on a gadget's title bar). Steve.
